Smart Energy Living helps consumers use energy more wisely, including the human energy needed to build more sustainable communities and a healthier planet.

Rebecca Cantwell, editor and publisher, worked more than two decades as an award-winning reporter and editor at major newspapers. She has also helped create or re-launch several national and regional magazines. For the past five years, she has worked as a communicator, educator and consultant on clean energy and sustainability issues.

Smart Energy Living was started by the Colorado Energy Science Center (later re-named the Smart Energy Living Alliance) in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). The nonprofit parent ceased operations in 2010 but Smart Energy Living LLC continues as an independent source of energy education.  NREL continues to serve as a content advisor and source of renewable energy and energy efficiency information for the magazine.
